India to soon suffer heat waves that break human survivability limit: World Bank report

The G20 Climate Risk Atlas also warned in 2021 that heat waves across India were likely to last 25 times longer by 2036-65 if carbon emissions remain high,

as in the IPCC's worst-case emission scenario," the report said. We all know about the recent news that at least 96 people are reported to have died from heat-aggravated conditions during a blistering heat wave across two states over the past several days, where 45C (113F) temperature and coupled with humidity in the month of June 2023.

Planting is an important strategy to deal with this problem. Large trees can greatly reduce local temperatures and offer reprieve from the oppressive heat. Through a process called transpiration, plants expel moisture. Similar to how our bodies cool down by perspiring, the evaporation of water from their leaves helps cool the surrounding air. Shade and cooling: Trees and other plants create their own natural shade, which lowers the temperature in the immediate vicinity. By collecting carbon dioxide and producing oxygen through photosynthesis, plants serve as organic air cleaners. This helps in reducing air pollution and enhancing the overall air quality, making it easier for people to breathe during hot weather. Plants play a crucial role in retaining moisture in the soil. The roots of plants help prevent soil erosion and maintain the water table. This is particularly important during heat waves when water resources can become scarce.

Our Mission is to plant 1 Lakh plants in India
